Sausage Rolls
I've been meaning to bake this delicious morsel for a long time but never got around. Dunno why I never though of using left over pastry dough and throw in any mince from the freezer.
Nevertheless these Sausage Rolls made a perfect pick-me-up snack. I notice the original filling is quite bland so I spiced up the filling by adding mushroom and scallion for some color and bite.
175g plain flour
80g butter
pinch of salr
3 tbs cold water
250g mince pork
salt and pepper
garlic powder
paprika powder
sliced scallion
1 button mushroom - finely chopped
To make the pastry, sift the flour and salt into a bowl. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Add the cold water and gather into a smooth dough, Wrap in a clear film and chill for 30 minutes.
For the filling, add the mince and half a teaspoon of each seasonings, garlic powder and paprika. Give it a good mix.
Preheat the oven to 190 deg cel. Roll out the pastry on a floured surface to roll a rectangular shape dough about 30cm. Cut length ways into two long strips.
Divide the mince into two and on a floured surface shape into a long roll about 30cm.
Place the rolled meat on the dough, brush the edge of the pastry with water and fold over the meat, pressing the edges together to seal them well.
Cut the roll into eight pieces and brush with egg wash. Repeat for the next batch. Place it on the baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes till golden color.
Serve warm.
